Paint Out

They say that creativity is good for the soul – a sentiment that I wholeheartedly agree with. Stretching one’s imagination and freeing the mind to embrace whichever form inspiration hits is something that everyone needs more of in their day-to-day lives. Enter Gasworks Arts Park presents Paint Out.

On Saturday, 23 and Saturday, 30 November, Albert Park’s community arts gem hosted a brand-new visual arts event, Paint Out – a visual symphony of colour, motion and live painting, where the audience becomes part of the landscape scene out in the open air. It was a chance to get your creative juices flowing in an open-air space surrounded by like-minded individuals, while soaking up the vitamin D.

Professional and amateur artists alike are invited to paint, draw or sketch anywhere within the park within an allocated 3 hours (11am–2pm). ‘For artists, Paint Out is an antidote for the isolation that comes from working within a studio, which can often be a very anxious place when you’re striving for perfection,’ says Gasworks’ Visual Arts manager, Tracey McIrvine.

For those who reserve their creative sentiments for private spaces, it’s also a great opportunity for artistic observation. Spectators grabbed a picnic rug for a lazy afternoon surrounded by blossoming art or to wandered around the park taking a peek over the shoulders of the artists. Once the time was up and paintbrushes were down, all artworks will be transferred over to the gallery walls for a pop-up Paint Out exhibition, running till Sunday, 15 December. All artworks in the exhibition will be in the running to win one of four $1000 cash prizes.

Whether you’re holding the paintbrush or just seeing the magic happen, check out Paint Out pop-up exibition.
